4pc closely matched set all date from the late 1950s (exact dates will vary over a few years and will slightly differ from photo), but are cosmetically, mechanically and electrically all matched in construction. These are the early glossy grey enamel, without the plastic film seen on the later production 1960s era units. NOS Brass hardware for mounting, with brass flat washers and copper lock washers included with all (4) units. These WE KS capacitors are of the highest quality, they all underwent Western Electric Inspection by WE staff, as they entered the Bell System in the 1950s. See example photo -- This 50+ year old cap easily reformed to full performance (open eye=no leak) (this one took about 50mins to reach peak operating after sitting years -- after which it's reformed and normal operation resumes)...
This after many decades out of service. Here it is showing no major leakage at full operating DC 400V. Reform to full capacity when properly reformed by slowly raising voltage over a period of time, usually 10min to 1hour.
The caps are low hours or NOS. Because they have not been used for overy 40 years -- they will need to be reformed before use --like all vintage electrolytics, on occasion they may not...
Cosmetics are stunning, excellent and mostly clean. There my be a few nicks, tiny dings and dust from the over 40 years of storage. These were removed from WORKING, often NOS Western Electric / Bell System tube amplifiers and long-life power supplies. They were specially made long life electrolytics, similar to those used in 1950s Marantz tube amps, like the Model 2 and Model 8/8B. Western Electric used these because the reliability, quality and performance were by far the best in power supplies. Original grey finish with heavy duty bakelite tops with threaded inserts for easy chassis mount.
The industrial grade threaded bakelite end plates make it easy to professionally mount to any build. Vintage, NOS real brass screws are included to complete the set. These painted grades of electrolytics were best, in fact the APEX of USA built alumalytic type caps. These caps will prove useful for many Diy and restoration projects -- anywhere you want the original type of electrolytic cap -- original parts are a perennial favorite of preamp and amplifier builders all over the world. The use of these reach far back to the early 1950's and Western Electric's best era of broadcast and recording amps like the "OK for FM era".
Many of the internal Bell Systems preamps, long line amps and recording and audio measurement equipment often used these for filter caps.. Back in the early days.
